DID YOU KNOW THAT CARPENTRY HELPS HAND/WRIST REHABILITATION?

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust has a unique Rehabilitation Centre that offers intensive rehabilitation programmes for adults, following injury or disease, such as long-standing back pain and later stage hand injuries. The unit consists of occupational therapy and physiotherapy areas where personalised therapeutic programmes for different stages of patient recovery, are followed to reach set treatment and personal goals.

There are many therapy areas which are tailored to suit individual needs, such as a gymnasium, pool, therapy room, and industrial workshop.

In the later stages of a therapy programme when patients are preparing to return to work or your other regular daily activities, their therapy programme is conducted within our amazing, purposely designed industrial workshop.  The aim of this treatment area is to improve patient fitness, stamina, strength, and function, as well as building up their confidence again to do your normal tasks.  Tasks, such as making wooden trugs, are ideal, and the activity can be broken down into stages, carefully chosen and monitored by the occupational therapists and physiotherapists.

In partnership with the rehabilitation unit, My Trusty wanted to help raise the profile of the fantastic work carried out within the Wessex Rehabilitation Centre, and commissioned them to make wooden trugs for our 2017 xmas Gardening Hamper.  In the picture, you can see a patient carrying out wrist strengthening movements as part of her therapy.
